Students need a 4 for a standard pass and 5 for a strong pass. This means that a candidate who scores nine grades 4, technically, has passed all of their exams. Reformed GCSE grades will be awarded on a rating scale from 9 (highest grade) to 1 (lowest). This means that excellent GCSE results are more important than ever for the best universities and the most sought-after courses.
The consultation gathered more than 6,000 responses, with nearly a quarter of students, and showed that more than 90 percent of students and parents were in favor of giving advance information about the test approach next summer to support students with the review, and about 80 percent or more agreed on topic options in some GCSE subjects. On the AQA Chemistry exam, 144 scores a 9, 125 an 8, 107 a 7, 88 a 6, 69 a strong pass of 5 and 50 a standard pass of 4.In the absence of AS grades, GCSE results are now the only real and hard evidence of the academic skills a university has to continue. GCSE grade limits are now only released to students on the day of the results, whereas they were previously released in advance. More than one in five (20.8%) enrolled in the UK GCSE earned one of the top three marks this year, up from 20.5% last summer.
To study A-Levels, students generally need a minimum of five GCSEs with a grade of between 4 and 9, including Mathematics and English. The new GCSE exams in England are the most difficult since the end of O levels in the 1980s, according to an independent school leader. The old and new GCSE rating scales don't match directly, but there are three points where they align, as shown in the table below. The GCSE exams will be held in May and June, as usual, and the examination boards have already published their final summer exam schedules.
If a student wants a higher grade to pass in Mathematics and English (4 or more), they may be able to retake the exam. As a student, the school or university you originally enrolled in must enter you in the additional series or GCSE replays based on the information available to them. What appears on the GCSE results sheet is determined by the rating limits, that is, the minimum grade for obtaining a particular grade.
